Steve is one of the pioneers of instrumental music ministries in Southern Baptist work, beginning his ministry as the instrumental director at First Baptist Church, Daytona Beach, in January 1981. After a 5-year tenure at Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta, GA, Steve has served as Minister ▪ Instrumental Music at Idlewild Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida, since May 1992. He was appointed the instrumental director for the Florida Baptist Worship Orchestra in 1996. In 2004, Steve received the Paul Bobbitt Achievement Award, given yearly by the Florida Baptist Convention, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Florida Baptists through effective Music and Worship Ministry.
Steve is an accomplished arranger/ orchestrator with many published titles to his credit. He has also orchestrated for a myriad of custom recording projects.
Steve is also a nationally recognized instrumental clinician. Credits include instrumental specialist for Music Week at Glorieta Baptist Conference Center (2004) and Ridgecrest Baptist Conference Center (2003) as well as numerous workshops and conferences.
He has authored numerous instrumental articles for nationally published periodicals such as Church Music Workshop, The Chorister and Creator Magazine. With a readership of over 2,000 church music leaders around the world, Steve also wrote a series of weekly articles for Bob Burroughs’s Monday Morning Email, with each article specific to instrumental music and ministry. He also contributed to Lifeway’s The Instrumental Resource, a textbook utilized in most of our Southern Baptist seminaries across the US.
Steve is also a “musicianary”, having led or participated in international music mission trips to Finland, Cuba (15 times), the Dominican Republic (3 times), Jamaica, Jordan, Australia, Great Britain, Malaysia, Guatemala and Greece. He’s witnessed many people come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ on these trips.
Steve resides in Tampa, Florida with his wife of 42 years, Bonnie. They also have two sons, Daniel and Joel (married to Veronica) and one daughter, Erin (married to Matt). Daniel leads worship weekly at our Sulphur Springs campus. Joel and Veronica live in Lakeland. He also has four grandchildren: Aden (12), Jackson (8) and Ryleigh (8) and Raegan (2 ½).
Steve is the instrumental director of the Florida Worship Band.

The Florida Worship Band will be demonstrating what to do (and what not to do) to help your rhythm section work and play as a unified group.
The Florida Rhythm Section will be the discussion panel to answer all your questions concerning your worship band: stems, monitors, gear, tone, etc.
The conference choir and orchestra will join together with the worship band to lead a final worship celebration.
